Teaching and
Learning

  • Delivery of the full Australian Curriculum, including the general capabilities

  • Focus on academic success through mastery learning of literacy and numeracy

  • Focus on explicit instruction pedagogy

  • Focus on wrap around mental health service through employment of specialists

  • All teachers to be proficient at working with students with learning difficulties

  • All classes are assigned 1 Master Teacher along with 3 Teacher Assistants 

  • Small school capped at 300 students each campus

  • Longer school day to ensure literacy and numeracy, and all aspects of Australian Curriculum allow sufficient instruction time for student mastery.

  • Daily two-hour literacy and numeracy blocks

Mastery Teaching

Mastery Teaching is at the core of our approach. The aim of Mastery Teaching is to ensure students have deep learning of content before moving on. The components of our approach are:

  • Place an emphasis on the science of how students learn 

  • Actively facilitate student’s learning by using evidence-based high yield instructional strategies

  • Scaffold student’s learning using explicit and direct, structured instruction to develop concept and skill 

  • Use authentic assessment practices that engage with children’s diverse understandings, capabilities and dispositions and empower children to begin to assess their own learning and others’ learning.

  • Foster ongoing, authentic relationships

  • Use the links between levels of the Australian Curriculum to plan and implement a seamless curriculum

Academic Organisation

  • Students in Year 4 –Year 6 work in multi-age core classes, where they study common curriculum links together. Each class is assigned a core teacher and 3 teaching assistants. The specific needs of students are met through differentiated classroom instruction, but also include specific literacy and numeracy programs targeted to the individual needs of the student through evidence-based intervention programs.

  • Students in Year 7 –Year 10 work in core classes where the common curriculum is linked appropriately. Classes are assigned a core teacher and 3 teaching assistants. The specific needs of students are met through differentiated classroom instruction, and include specific literacy and numeracy programs targeted to the individual needs of the student through evidence-based intervention programs.

  • All classes are supported by a number of specialist teachers and visiting programs in Health & PE, and Music.

Years 4-6

Students study the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Health & Physical Education, Humanities & Social Science, The Arts, Technologies, Languages. 

Allocated time for learning in English and Mathematics is additional to the recommended time.

Years 7-10

Students study the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Health & Physical Education, History, Geography, Economics & Business, Civics & Citizenship, The Arts, Technologies, Languages. 

Allocated time for learning in English and Mathematics is additional to the recommended time.
