Message from the Principal
Dear MSA families,
The past two weeks could not have been a better start for MSA Coolangatta. The students have been amazing and they have really enjoyed the days at Tweed – it seems to have had a real calming effect, as the natural surroundings are beautiful. The students have been exceptionally well behaved, which has even been evidenced by our bus driver, Ken, and Elaine, the founder of Team Lemonade. We have a lot to celebrate over the past two weeks, one of the events the students loved the most was our barbecue with Team Lemonade, which was a great opportunity to learn about diversity and share a meal with our neighbours. The swimming carnival was also a huge success.
Learning has been going full steam ahead with some groups on verandas and under trees showing that the MSA way of learning can occur anywhere. We have started a new tradition of Positive Postcards, which affirms students in each class at the end of the day. We are aiming to build gratitude with the right attitude in each of our students and we hope you can help us do that by talking about our values with a particular focus on high expectations. Please help us to build positivity in your child by asking them something positive about their day.
Please ensure your child has their water bottle and food, as we cannot access food elsewhere for them. Also, please complete the General Permission form, which was sent to parents as a blanket permission for most events we will be doing at Coolangatta.
We were so excited to finally be in our beautiful custom designed building today with our students, and we look forward to greeting families at our Orientation morning on Tuesday 7 February from 8:30-9:30am.
Thank you for your continued support!
Warm regards,
Matt Cavanough

Updates & Reminders
Please disregard any previous attendance email addresses. During Term 1, please email coolangatta@msa.qld.edu.au for any attendance related notes or call (07) 5551 4080 to notify Administration of your student’s absence before 9am. Please do not email your student’s teacher with attendance related notes as they may not see the email before school starts.
A text message will be sent out to parents/carers at 9am each day if your student is not present without an explanation.
MSA hats are a crucial part of our uniform. If your child does not have a MSA hat, they can be purchased from administration for $15. If your child wishes to participate in outdoor activities they will need to be wearing their MSA hat, if they do not have their hat they will not be allowed outside. Alternatively, we can give them a hat and we will invoice you that afternoon.
We have a new phone number! If you need to get in contact with us for any reason, please call or email:
- (07) 5551 4080

Classroom Highlights
Miss Santi
Highlight & Conversation starter: I’d like to congratulate our juniors on a fabulous start to the school year. Our existing students have quickly adapted to the change in location and those new to MSA have settled in so well. Last week we completed our first creative writing task. Ask your child about their story!
Miss Love
Highlight & Conversation starter: I want to congratulate Middle Blue on their resilience and positive attitudes that they have brought each day. Their hard work has not gone unnoticed and I am so excited to watch this class grow. In Media Arts students in Middle Blue are working on photography and by the end of this term they will create a series of three photographs which show your journey at MSA. Ask your child what their most memorable moment from their first week of school was!
Miss O’Shea
Highlight & Conversation starter: I want to congratulate Senior White on their resilience and effort after what has been a very hot start to Term 1, 2023. I have been very impressed with their hard work and ability to return to a structured school day. In Design Technologies students are completing a food and fibre unit in which students research nutritional value and innovative farming technologies to develop their own healthy beverage. Ask your child what their positive self checkout was at the end of each day!
